Bird Songs for Breezy (Honoring Jaimie Branch)

Investigating the crossroads of improvisation, rhythm, and community, Dada Strain Radio is a monthly show on Sonos Sound System. A prolific writer and editor who has contributed to publications like The New York Times, Pitchfork, and NPR, host Piotr Orlov (@dadastrain) hones in on the rich intersection of jazz and dance as a blueprint for the development of music, and potential social futures. The final episode of Dada Strain Radio’s first season, “Bird Songs for Breezy,” honors the memory of the late trumpeter/composer/improviser Jaimie “Breezy” Branch. Best known for her jazz quartet, Fly Or Die, and her electronic duo, Anteloper, branch was also a tireless musical explorer and arts-community organizer, famed in both Chicago and in Brooklyn for producing her own shows and doing massive work with her punk principles intact. The episode features music by Branch and memories of Jaimie from family and friends, including Kate Branch, Angel Bat David, Lester St. Louis and others.
