Sheroes Mixtape Memoir with Jamila Woods
Raised in Chicago, Jamila was surrounded by the city’s native sounds of blues, jazz, gospel, soul, and house, but found strength in her words by becoming part of its poetry community. Alongside her music - which has been widely applauded for its dialogue on Black identity and championing of Black artistry - Jamila has been an educator and mentor to Chicago youth, teaching the importance of spoken word for creative expression.
On Sheroes Mixtape Memoir Episode 6 - titled Finding Her Voice, Building Her Sound - Jamila talks to Carmel about the significance of poetry and how to become even more vulnerable through her music.
