The Roots of Jungle / Drum & Bass
For this month's episode, host DJ Lindsey explores Jungle and Drum and Bass music and how much it has evolved over time with special guests DJ Krust and DJ Flight.
Jungle and Drum and Bass music is comprised of sped up breakbeats, heavy influences of Jamaican sound system culture from an emcee toasting along with the DJ at a dance to rewinds, and DJs cutting dubplates. There is the experimentation with electronic sounds taken from house and techno music, sampling and collaging sounds together like hip hop, and of course soul & r&b influences are in there as well. Because the genre changed as it passed through new hands, we forget about the originators and a new story gets told. This is something that happened with jungle music and DJ Lindsey loves that she gets to tell these stories to remind us of the amazing culture that Black people create all over the world.
For this month's mix, you'll hear tracks from Goldie, LTJ Bukem, and Roni Size.
